Numa Introduces a New Diamond Carbide (PCD)

Thompson, CT USA - Numa, a leading designer and manufacturer of down hole hammers and bits, has introduced the strongest and longest lasting diamond carbide available in the drilling industry today. This new carbide is available in DTH bits from 3-1/2 inches to 48 inches (89 - 1219 mm) in diameter and is specially designed for the oil and gas industry in highly abrasive and medium hard rock formations.

Numa’s diamond impregnated polycrystalline carbide (PCD) has been designed for high performance in extremely deep drilling applications - the kind of drilling that goes down 6,000 to 12,000 or more feet (1830-3660+ m). Due to its special characteristics, the diamond carbide has many benefits over standard carbide. The PCD carbide is 3 to 5 times harder, 100% more wear resistant and has a compressive strength that is 115% stronger than standard carbide. All of this provides a longer lasting bit that is able to continue drilling where other bits using inferior carbide would need to be replaced or repaired. With its increased strength and wear resistance, Numa’s PCD carbide bits will not lose gauge size which allows the operator to run DTH products longer and deeper before turning over to tricone products which generally penetrate slower and are more likely to drill off-target.

One test in the Appalachia region involved placing a Numa 8-3/4" (222 mm) PCD carbide bit in a gas exploration hole at 1500 feet (456 m). The bit drilled all the way down to 8000 feet (2400 m) without any down time or need to pull out of the hole to change bits. If a standard carbide bit was used to drill this deep, it would have required the driller to pull out of the hole 2 to 3 times to replace bits and possibly ream the hole back to gauge - drastically increasing the cost of drilling. Costs were further reduced because the drilling project was completed a day sooner with the stronger, longer lasting Numa PCD carbide bits.

So if you’re looking to get optimal performance while reducing overall drilling costs, contact Numa today to experience the extraordinary cost saving benefits of Numa’s diamond carbide bit.

Numa is a major manufacturer of down hole hammers and bits for the international drilling industry. The company designs and builds down hole hammers and bits for drilling vertical and horizontal holes 3-1/2 to 48 inches (89 - 1219 mm) in diameter.
