Thompson, CT USA - Numa, a leading manufacturer of down hole hammers and bits, has announced a joint venture agreement with EuroIseki Limited (EIL), a top provider of remote controlled tunneling systems. The alliance brings together two of the world's foremost horizontal drilling experts to design, manufacture and market a new range of drilling equipment that has the ability to re-shape the microtunneling industry.
The new horizontal drilling products will combine Numa's leading edge down hole hammer engineering with EIL's technologically advanced microtunneling products. The EIL-Numa horizontal drilling systems will provide drillers with the fastest and most cost effective means of drilling horizontally through hard rock and difficult ground conditions. Early estimates on a mid-sized system put penetration rates in excess of 8 inches (200 mm) per minute through the hardest granite. A further benefit of the EIL-Numa system will be its ability to operate efficiently under considerable ground water pressure.
Numa and EIL are also partnering on the development of pipe replacement systems that have the ability to considerably upsize or replace existing pipelines. These patented systems are able to complete single replacements over long distances without disturbing on-going business on the ground surface.
EuroIseki Limited is one of the world's leading providers of remote controlled tunneling systems and has the largest range of small diameter tunneling systems in the market. The main thrust of their technology has been the use of small diameter slurry systems with shields from 8 inches (200 mm) in nominal diameter to the not so mini-shields of almost ten feet (3 m) in diameter.
