Sandvik seals nuke power deal
SWEDEN'S Sandvik AB has won a contract worth more than US$127 million to supply steam generator tubes to China's nuclear power industry, the company said in a statement yesterday.
Delivery will begin in 2013, the statement said.
Sandvik is one of only a small number of companies worldwide that are capable of producing the steam generator tubes used in nuclear plants.
Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Equipment Co, a main equipment supplier to the nation's reactors, signed the deal with Sandvik.
China's nuclear sector is seeing a construction boom as the government aims to cut pollution caused by coal-fired generation. The sector also got a shot in the arm when a 4 trillion yuan (US$585 billion) stimulus package, which included more spending on nuclear power generation projects, was unveiled to weather the economic downturn.
