Kelly |
| |
Round 3 fluted Kelly with the floating drive is the most out standing driving mechanism in the rotary drilling field. Three evenly spaced flutes running lengthwise on the Kelly are mounted by heat treated pins in the Kelly drive bushing. These inexpensive, easily replaced pins are the principal wearing parts of the assembly. The flange type drive bushing provides a smooth running anti-backlash Kelly operation with a minimum of vertical friction. The equally loaded pins actually float, so that wear is evenly distributed for longer life, efficient, economical operation.
